History

We were born among the mountains surrounded by the natural landscape of the Andes. We are heirs of the knowledge of art, high quality textiles and many handmade craft designs. We live in Carabuela, a small village near the Imbabura volcano in Ecuador. For hundreds of years we have woven blankets, hats, mittens, sweaters, scarves, and many original creations using sheep and alpaca wool. Many foreigners from all over the world come to our town to appreciate up close and take home our handicrafts. In October 2009 we had a special person visit us from USA, Amy Johnstone.Together we organized a woman's cooperative, Amor a la Vida. she fell in love with Ecuadorian handicrafts at the first meeting. Since then she has travelled to be with us 59 times. Can you believe it? My name is Freddy. In 2006 I went to college to study English. I chose that language because I wanted to communicate with the foreign visitors and offer our knitting to them. Now I can say that was the best decision of my life! I could establish good friendships and commercial relationships. Most importantly, I could help women in my village improve their lives by enabling them to sell their work to other countries. In September 2013 my wife and I decided to travel to Chile. It was a radical change. I started a new business adventure but this time in a different country. We began with Ecuadorian and Peruvian crafts and learned a lot. After we hardworking years we have 10 stores in Chile and lately we have traveled to other countries looking for the best products for our stores. After working with Amy for 17 years she has decided to retire and has passed her torch back to us. With all our business knowledge we have gained we are confident we can continue to improve the standard of living in our villages. This is why we have created our own webpage called thewildalpaca.com Our company is innovative and we will continue to design, produce, and source distinctive and unique Andean products to the world. 10% of all sales are designated to support healthcare, education, sports development and elderly care programs.
